Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! No, you aren`t in the Wizard of Oz, you are in Joya Grande Zoo, Santa Cruz de Yojoa, Honduras. And while you may not see tigers and bears (the do have lions) you will find yourself in a very beautiful place full of different species of animals. Ostriches, panthers, white peacocks, giraffes and hippopotamus are not uncommon at Joya Grande, in fact, they have a breeding program designed to help save endangered species. As a result of this, the local lioness has given birth to three precious baby lions that are now Joya Grande`s greatest pride.
One fun thing about this zoo is that it`s very hands on. I had the great honor to be introduced to a, quite charming, jaguar pup. It grew very fond of my purse and wouldn`t let go! I guess even jaguars have a sense of fashion. So give yourself a small break and have a blast with the white faced monkeys at Joya Grande. It will be a day you`ll never forget.
